The last years, the policies implemented in Ecuador and the big efforts of the people have achieved for the country the level of self-sufficient in poultry and egg. The next step will be to increase the number of productions to achieve the awaited exports that any government wants to balance their budgets.
The geographical and climatic variation that has Ecuador make that all the production is centered in coastal regions and mountains, and on a smaller scale in the Amazon.
The Ecuadorian poultry production has grown tremendously in recent years. According to current data from FAOSTAT, you can see that from 1990 to 2014 has quadrupled the production of broilers. To produce 45 million birds with a consumption per capita of 7 kg / year has passed now to produce 224 million chickens with a consumption of 32-33 kg / year.
Regarding laying hens almost 80% is in the highlands of the Andes in the provinces of Tungurahua, Cotopaxi, Pichincha and in the coast of Manabí.
Statistically Ecuador has passed at 1990 from 5 million laying hens to 9.5 million in 2014, nearly the double. Obviously egg production has increased from 1300 million with a consumption of 90 units / person / year to have in 2014 nearly 2093 millions of production with a consumption nearly 140 units / person / year.
As we can see the good trend in the Ecuadorian market, is similar to the the global trend that is occurring around the world. Ecuador is near to achieve the levels to export because as we see the internal market is self-sufficient. In the coming years, if the country adopts good practices and the investments are selected with technological products that can add value to the market will make Ecuador one reference country in South America.
