Differential diagnostic of mouth and digestive injuries in poultry farming

Sometimes, mouth injuries in birds (presents in tongue and beak) create confusion before giving clinical diagnostic. In these cases, it is important to follow the next criteria: in poultry farming, injuries are never isolated. They always must coincide with other 2 or 3 injuries simultaneously.
That will permit us to realize a differential diagnostic among different options, such as micotoxicosis, candidiasis, clostridiosis and chemical burn by acidifiers.
1- A presence of mycotoxins capable of injuring beak and tongue must be accompanied with other injuries:
– Enlarged and flabby pro ventricle without epiyhelium.
– Injuries in gizzard (flabby gizzard and burn of layer cornea).
– Reddish and velvety duodenum of epiyhelium.
– Presence of orangey jelly in excrement.
– We should have a feed analysis of the production plant in relation to Fusarium toxins.
2-Candida albicans contamination in mouth injuries should be accompanied by other injuries:
-Injuries in crop
– Lower probabilities of injury in intestine rectum
– It could be preceded of an antibiotic treatment in feed
– Sanaria injure with the use of antifungical in drinking water.
3-Presence of Clostridium in pelletized feed should be accompanied by circular ulcers in transit between pro ventricle and intestine mucous.
4- Chemical burn by use of acidifiers in feed, for over dose or bad mixture, would be the only reason that would not be accompanied for other injuries
Realizing the differential clinical diagnostic is necessary to receive laboratorial support through:
1. Mycotoxin analysis, antibiotic analysis and adifier analysis in feed.
2. Candida albicans cultive in mouth injuries
This information will permit us to have a perspective vision, rule out impossible causes and establish proper treatments.
