During the second semester of 2023, a ceremony was held to award stipends to two students selected as winners by the University authorities of CUSur.
On November 6th, 2023, the Martha Acosta Foundation presented a new scholarship in honour of the trajectory of MVZ MC Elia Margarita Rodríguez Chavez. The celebration took place in the Government Hall of the Centro Universitario del Sur in Ciudad Guzmán, the municipal capital of Zapotlán el Grande, Jalisco.
The winners were selected by the educational authorities who chose Yaneli Hernández Flores and Jesús Antonio Morán Bautista, both 8th-semester students of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics, as winners of the MVZ MC Elia Margarita Rodríguez Chavez 2023.
The jury of the MVZ. Elia Margarita Rodríguez Chávez scholarship composed of the following members: Dr José Guadalupe Salazar Estrada, Rector of Centro Universitario del Sur; Mtra. Berenice Sánchez Caballero, Director of the Health Sciences Division; further representatives of CUSur; and Martha Alicia Acosta Padilla, CEO of the Martha Acosta Foundation.
Representatives of the pork industry were also present during the event, expressing their support for the projects and efforts of the Martha Acosta Foundation, including Dr. Jorge Iván Espinosa Vázquez, Director of the Regional Union of Pig Farmers of Jalisco, representatives of the Association of Pig Veterinarians of Los Altos de Jalisco (AMVECAJ), the Mexican Association of Pig Veterinarians (AMVEC) and the Western Association of Pig Veterinarians (AMVECO), among others.
Dr Martha Acosta, CEO of the Martha Acosta Foundation, shared the foundation’s vision of the educational model. She expressed three of the most important pillars: honouring an exceptional mentor, supporting students of veterinary medicine and zootechnics, and bringing future professionals to the swine industry.
Afterwards, Dr José Guadalupe Salazar Estrada, Rector of the University Centre, expressed his gratitude and acknowledgement of the work done by the Foundation in favour of pig farming and to the students of the different University Centres to whom the stipends have been granted.
Marcos Manuel Macías, who acted as Master of Ceremonies, read a summary of the studies, positions, awards, and work experience that MVZ. Elia Margarita Rodríguez Chávez achieved during her professional career.
To close the ceremony, Dr Elia Margarita Rodriguez Chavez expressed her gratitude and complete support to the new scholarship holders, mentioning the importance of the commitment and professionalism with which they must work every day.
The ceremony concluded with the awarding of the scholarship to the winning students. Furthermore, a recognition for the first mentor awarded by the Martha Acosta Foundation on behalf of the MVZ Scholarship Elia Margarita Rodríguez Chávez – 2023 of the Centro Universitario del Sur (CUSur).
