The Martha Acosta Foundation awarded the 4th scholarship in honour to MVZ Juan Manuel MagallĂłn Mares (RIP)
The Martha Acosta Foundation held the 4th scholarship ceremony in commemoration of professionals of the Mexican swine industry. The scholarship awarded on 28 April 2023 was in remembrance of the acclaimed mentor MVZ Juan Manuel MagallĂłn Mares (RIP), honouring his trajectory and dedication to the pig farming industry.

The Martha Acosta Foundation held the 4th scholarship ceremony in commemoration of professionals of the Mexican swine industry. The scholarship awarded on 28 April 2023 was in remembrance of the acclaimed mentor MVZ Juan Manuel MagallĂłn Mares (RIP), honouring his trajectory and dedication to the pig farming industry.
The winning student was chosen by the Centro Universitario de los Altos, who named José de Jesús González Franco, an 8th-semester student of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics, as the winner.
The award ceremony was attended by representatives of the industry, relatives of MVZ Juan Manuel MagallĂłn Mares, and educational authorities of the university. The ceremony was held in the Hall of Former Rectors of the University Centre.
Among the participants were MVZ José Mario Rosado Estrada, Treasurer of the Mexican Association of Swine Veterinarians (AMVEC); MVZ Salvador Espinoza Covarrubias, President of the Association of Swine Veterinarians of Los Altos de Jalisco (AMVECAJ); MVZ Teodoro Miguel Merlos, Treasurer of the Western Association of Swine Veterinarians; and MVZ Jorge Ivan Espinoza Vázquez, Director of the Regional Union of Swine Veterinarians of Jalisco (URPJ).
The event was presided over by Dr. Edgar Eduardo Pulido Chávez, Director of the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Engineering; Dr. Martha Alicia Acosta Padilla, Founder and President of the Martha Acosta Foundation; Ms. Carmen Leticia Orozco López, Head of the Department of Livestock and Agricultural Sciences; and Ms. Indira Merary Guardado Bueno, Head of the Scholarships and Exchanges Unit.
During the ceremony, Dr Martha Acosta gave a special mention to the honoured mentor, expressing the vision of the Martha Acosta Foundation and emphasised that “our objective is to provide continuous support to students with a focus on the swine sector and to contribute to the Mexican pork industry”.
The Foundation is committed to helping students of veterinary medicine and zootechnics in Latin America interested in developing in the swine sector with responsibility, ethics, commitment, and dedication to their professional development.
