This year AMVEC celebrates its 55^th national congress between 1-4 August in Acapulco, Mexico. The exhibition and events will take place at the complex of Mundo Imperial where an estimated 1,500 congress participants are expected.

AMVEC (Mexican Association of Specialized Swine Veterinarians) is one of the main representative bodies of the Mexican swine industry. AMVEC was established in a historical moment in Mexico in 1968. The Association was founded by first-generation veterinarian professionals who undertook their postgraduate studies abroad. Besides building international expertise and cooperation, AMVEC has played a key role in supporting the Mexican swine industry transition from traditional pig farming practices to industrial-scale production.

Today, recent changes in production systems and the incorporation of Mexico into the globalised world pose new challenges to the veterinary profession. AMVEC, together with its several local branches, is a driving force in this process. Organizing the national congress year after year with international lecturers and participants is one of the most important milestones in the exchange of know-how on the latest scientific and technical advances in the industry.

Keynote speeches and round table discussions will be dedicated to varied aspects of pig farming, such as animal welfare, sustainability, nutrition, and economic challenges. Acknowledged national and international speakers will address the current sanitary situation of pig farming, with a specific focus on Porcine Epidemic Diarrhoea (PED) and Circovirus, as well as other topics such as the analysis of the Agreement for the Opening Against Inflation and Deficiency (Apecic) and its effect on costs and economic changes.

Besides the lectures, attendees will have the chance to meet the representatives of the sector’s leading companies who will showcase their technological, pharmaceutical, and nutritional innovations in more than 140 commercial spaces.
