Septicemia in broilers: The absence of regional lymph nodes in birds facilitates the appearance of septicemia. The origin of the bacteria can be found in the yolk, in the feed and in the environment of the farm itself. The incubation time between infection and the appearance of the first symptoms or lesions is usually long, since the high physiological temperature of the birds delays the growth of bacteria. One of the first lesions is petechiae in the fat of the thigh. To discard a mycotoxic origin, in the case of petechiae caused by septicemia, there should be no hemorrhages in the large muscles of the thigh nor in the pectoral muscles.
