Aflatoxicosis in broilers

Aflatoxin is a mycotoxin mainly produced by fungi of the genus Aspergillus. In birds, it mainly affects the liver, where we can see hypertrophy, rounded edges, poor consistency, and petechial hemorrhages on the surface, as well as paleness and discoloration similar to hepatic steatosis. For the differential diagnosis, it is necessary to analyze the feed, check the liver enzyme levels, and observe possible hemorrhages in large muscles, such as thigh or breast.
