Ovarian infection in breeding hens

It is common to find some infected eggs in these birds, which show a dark or greenish color. This pathology corresponds to an infection by certain Enterobacteriaceae such as Salmonella, Pseudomonas, Proteus and E.coli capable to produce SH2 and type IV toxins that settle in the liver and spread locally to the ovary, or septicemically to the rest of the organs of the birds, causing a syndrome known as Avian Infectious Toxic Hepatoenteritis.
