(1) In nature, there are many living beings, which have chlorophyll which allows them to produce the necessary nutrients for their vital functions.
(2) Many others living beings lack chlorophyll and therefore their nutrition depends on the organic remains of other living beings. this makes them parasites and competitors with each other bacteria, molds and yeasts belong to this group.
(3) The competition to get the greatest quantity of organic matter in soil is the result of the sum of several strategies: reproductive, toxic secretion and antitoxin substance processing.
3.1 Bacteria reproduces every 6 hours (thus one bacteria in 30 days can originate more than 4,000 million bacteria.
3.2 Filamentous fungi reproduce every 2 weeks and, numerically, cannot compete with bacteria. in exchange, they have developed the capacity of producing poisons that we know as mycotoxins and antibiotics, all of them belonging to some of the 5 groups formed on the basis of common chemical nuclei. These poisons have the objective of reduce the bacterial population).
3.3 Yeasts, non-filamentous fungi, reproduce faster than filamentous fungi, but slower than bacteria. yeasts have developed a defensive strategy which consists of synthesizing a cell membrane, based on specific glucomans, where the mycotoxins are fixed.
(4) In 1979 we started our research attempting to eliminate or reduce mycotoxins from food by physical or chemical methods with few industrializable results. In 1984 we restarted research with another approach: observing the gastrointestinal content of animals, affected by mycotoxicosis.
4.1 Thus we were able to observe that animals affected by mycotoxicosis develop a nutritional behavior, known as pica or malacia, which leads them to ingest unusual objects or materials (feathers, sand, cement, glass,…).
4.2 This phenomenon showed that mycotoxicosis increase the need to ingest silicates and we guided research to develop obtaining activated silicates with the greatest capacity to fix mycotoxins.
4.3 The result was the obtaining of two patents (1988 and 2014) of the mycotoxin binder scientifically called as silicoglycidol and commercially ALQUERFEED ANTITOX® which was presented at the IV INTERNATIONAL BIOVET WORKSHOP in Tarragona and ALQUERFEED ANTITOX GEL® that was presented at the CHINA ANIMAL HUSBANDRY EXHIBITION (CAHE) in Chongqing (China) in 2015.
(5) Since Biovet opened the market for mycotoxin binders, hundreds of companies are operating offering different technological molecules (enzymes, glucomannans) or lack of technology such as non-activated quarry silicates.
