Use of natural multifunctional solutions in broilers: relative organ weight, digestive and hepatic lesions and microvilli structure
The multifunctional natural solutions used in this trial were designed to supply the requirements of broilers in the different stages and to replace a wide variety of additives with only one product for each productive stage.

The multifunctional natural solutions used in this trial were designed to supply the requirements of broilers in the different stages and to replace a wide variety of additives with only one product for each productive stage. These solutions contain the following active principles:
- Silicoglycidol: highly efficient mycotoxin binder
- Cimenol ring: natural microbicide that acts as a preservative and balances the digestive flora
- Pronutrients: they improve organs’ physiology (gut, liver, immunity)
- Enzymes: they are specially selected to fit the animal requirements and diet composition
- Natural antioxidants and probiotics
Aim of the trial
To evaluate the effect of multifunctional natural solutions on organ relative weight, resistance against infections and toxic substances, and structure of gut microvilli.
Experimental design
248 one-day-old male broiler chickens (Cobb 500) were distributed in two groups. The trial lasted for 6 weeks while they received three different diets depending on their age: starter (1 to 10 days), grower (11-20 days) and finisher (21-42 days).
Experimental groups: They received the same basal diet (balanced) to which the following additives were included:
Experimental groups: All groups received the same balanced basal diet to which the following were added:
- Control: conventional additives (see table 1)
- Alquermix: multifunctional natural solutions (see table 2)
Table 1. Additives in the control group (conventional additives)

Table 2. Additives in the treatment group (multifunctional solutions)

Data collection: On days 10 and 42, 4 birds per group were sacrificed to conduct the evaluations.
Statistical analysis: ANOVA and t-student (GLM SAS V. 9.2.). P<0.05 was considered as statistically significant.
Results

Relative organ weight was smaller in Alquermix that the gut and the liver were more efficient (when an organ is less effective, its relative weight increases).

There are fewer animals in Alquermix with lesions in the gut and liver, which means that the natural multifunctional product protects birds at an intestinal level, against infections such as coccidia, and against hepatic lesions, caused by toxic agents such as mycotoxins or infections.

A greater VL:CD ratio indicates that the structure of the microvilli is more optimal, which in turn means that the surface available for nutrient absorption is much greater. The group with multifunctional natural products obtained better VL:CP, showing that these products had a greater impact on improving gut mucosa’s structure.
Conclusions
Multifunctional solutions based on natural ingredients improve the organs’ physiology, which leads to a reduction in their relative weight, a greater resistance against harmful agents like microorganisms and toxic substances, and a greater nutrient absorption surface.
Besides, these products have additional advantages because they are completely natural, do not require a withdrawal period, and reduce the costs of additive management. They are effective at a much lower dose than other additives separately, so that they interfere much lesser in the inclusion of other ingredients.
