Necrotic enteritis by using feather meal
The inclusion of feather meal in poultry feed is an authorized practice but requires some considerations about thermal and hydrolytic treatment by which it is obtained. The Crude Protein content is 83% but with digestibility below 80 % may cause the presence of indigestible proteins in the intestine, which is exploited by the Clostridium sp. and could be the cause of necrotic enteritis. Should also be noted that the feather  meal is rich in arginine, cysteine and threonine, but the content of lysine, methionine and tryptophan is low. Finally noted that feather meal is a suitable source of fat content ( 6% ).
