Eggshell defects

It is common to find different types of eggshell defects. They usually occur as a consequence of bacterial  or viral salpingitis. The latter is more common, and causes longitudinal striations on the eggshell. However, bacteria usually cause irregular or localized striations, as can be observed in the photo. It is important to observe the kidneys and oviducts to determine the causative agent of the infection.
