AITHE in broilers: Avian infectious toxic hepatoenteritis is a very frequent disease in broilers, vertically transmitted from the breeders, and it is caused by bacteria such as Salmonella, Shigella, Pseudomonas, among other SH2-producing bacteria. In late phases of the production cycle, when stress appear, there are mortality outbreaks, and affected birds show hepatitis with whitish infiltration, gas in caecum and intestine, and even persistence of Meckel’s diverticulum. It is recommended to check day-old chicks to observe yolk infection, evaluate the health status of the breeders, and isolate the causative agent to establish an adequate prevention and treatment program.
