Enzyme deficiency in broilers

The use of cereals in poultry feed usually requires the addition of certain exogenous enzymes that help carbohydrate digestion. This is due to structural deficiencies of the digestive mucosa, or due to an insufficient production of endogenous enzymes. The most frequent consequences derived from the lack of enzymes are the formation of gels, that affect motility and absorption, and excess of residual feed that serves as a substrate for the multiplication of pathogens.
