Editorial 51: The surprise of the increase in GDP
The latest news about GDP growth thanks to the inclusion in the new method of calculating GDP, the “wealth” generated by alegal activities of prostitution and illegal activities of drug trafficking, are truly amazing.
At normal citizen don’t understand the purpose of the exercise performed by brainy economists and don’t really know if this is a joke, an attempt to increase GDP to justify an increase in public debt without exceeding the percentages debt / GDP or just it is an attempt to tax collection voracity that passes over alegalidades and illegalities.
After the first moment of surprise, begins to feel a remarkable degree of rejection and disdain for these maneuvers. We will discuss only three out of many reasons:
(1) As it is included in the calculation of GDP alegal and illegal activities could think of including the “wealth” created by corruption.
Probably is an easily calculable amount given the suspicions that exist, and have arrived to court, on the involvement of politicians and other “characters” of public life.
(2) If it is included in the calculation of GDP alegal and illegal activities could think of including the “wealth” created by the additional costs of some public works.
Probably an easily calculable amount given the suspicions that exist, and have arrived to court concerning the oligopolists involvement witches traveling companions or afternoon and evening visitors to areas of power.
(3) If it is included in the calculation of GDPalegal and illegal activities could think of including the “wealth” created by the Hypothecary Law.
Probably an easily calculable amount knowing how much money has been charged to families before taking away housing and how were still charging after removing housing.
To not continue long, perhaps many citizens preferred that GDP would increase due to increased actual production in the agricultural and poultry sector through real measures to promote research into new technologies and training and development of agricultural and poultry companies now oppressed by interventionist legislation. In conclusion, less prostitution and drug trafficking and more livestock, and poultry farmers if we want to increase our GDP in a socially healthy. And although this should not be increased public debt.
