Editorial 14: Virtual Reality and Closure of Field
Over one century ago, a famous philosopher said that reading newspaper every day was not a recommended practice. However, comparing newspapers and magazines from different stages may result very interesting.
Apart from the strictly news, the collection of all news and texts together transmits a message which has not been influenced by the editor neither the publisher. This message constitutes the brand, the stamp of the age.
If we analyse general newspaper ad magazines about veterinary from 60’s and 70’s we can underline the presence of many geographic and geostrategic maps and analysis. The production, fascination by the technological progress and the increase on the life level of the citizens is the brand of the age.
If we analyse the texts from 80’s and 90’s we can underline the perversion of the meaning of words.
Terms like workshop, observatory and engineering are commonly used in incorrect activities from the point of view of their meaning. Thus, we can read word workshop, work observatory or financial engineering.
Finally when we review texts from 2010, we can see that their reading transfers us immediately to the virtual reality. The productive economy in agriculture, livestock and applied technologies has disappeared from the texts and the universe “yuppie” (young urban professional) appears as the sole reality.
Does that mean that this economy has disappeared? In fact, it has not disappeared but neither the population are interested in this activity nor the founders/ managers of these companies are interested in being the focus of public attention.
There is an important net of companies that thanks to their mechanism of action and their ongoing innovation are able to manufacture primary products, with policies of reasonable prices, in specialized sectors focused on fulfilling the needs of customers.
The discretion in its activity and the maintenance of know-how let these companies gain important market shares in international markets.
The competence of these companies is the called national champions and oligopolies created and protected by the states. The barriers for these companies are the regulatory organs, from different states, that far from promoting the free competition, they silence their activity due to an interest in protecting the national industry or due to a lack of transparency in processing the files.
The situation of virtual reality and state interventionism, probably linked to each other, constitutes one of the reasons of the current labour crisis in many countries. The castes of politicians and public officers should know it and solve the problem instead of giving headlines in newspapers with statements out of meaning but inside the virtual reality, about the creation of workplaces. Only the technological companies and the productive agricultural and livestock exploitations are capable of creating workplaces, as long as they can develop their job freely, without interventionism by the states.
