Editorial 8: Less Paperwork, better Regulation and something else
Recently, the following governmental campaign was presented in a country “less paperwork and better regulation to promote the competitivity”.
We do not know if it is a real campaign or just an image campaign. Only time and citizen will be able to evaluate the veracity of the sentence but, from Veterinaria Digital we value positively this kind of initiatives in any country or association of countries. This campaign is such important that it should be universalized.
We would add something more regarding the universalization of the slogan “less paperwork, better regulation” and a deep restructuring of the regulator organisms.
In the veterinarian sector, the restructuring could start with the veterinarian services and regulator organisms by separating them from the Health Ministry. Mixing the veterinarian criteria with the pharmaceutics ones is a big mistake. Fortunately, in many countries this organic separation already exists and those people who know both models do not hesitate about the benefits that the veterinarian independence supposes for the general interest.
Finally, from Veterinaria Digital we propose that these new regulator organisms have a simple organization chart, have enough funds so that they can be operative and the recruitment are based on professionalism, academic and independence criteria which must be approved by a parliamentary commission in order to exclude personnel related to lobbies of the industry.
The slogan “Less paperwork and better regulation” will only be positive on the competitivity if they are accompanied by the above conditions.
