Porcine proliferative enteropathy

Bowel wall thickening of the ileum and a strong reticular appearance of the serosal surface is observed, along with increased size of the folds of the mucosa, which is called intestinal adenomatosis mucosal, both appear as a result of a proliferation of enterocytes. Signs correspond to porcine proliferative enteropathy, also known as ileitis, a disease whose causative agent is intracellular Lawsonia intracellularis bacteria.
