Use of polyphenols in broilers hepatic regeneration

 Introduction

Toxics presence in feed, drinking water and some drugs can be harmful for the liver, altering hepatocyte and kidney cells metabolism.

These damages are manifested by alterations in the blood serum biochemical parameters like hepatic enzymes, kidney enzymes, proteinemia and glycemia.

Proteinemia has a special incidence in antibodies production and muscles growth, therefore the study of plasmatic levels restoration through the use of hepatoregenerative pronutrients is a subject of interest in poultry.

The present study has been developed analyzing polyphenols efficiency in the normalization of plasmatic protein levels in broilers with hepatocyte alterations at the age of 11 days due to aflatoxin B1 ingestion in feed in concentrations of 2 ppm from day 0 to day 10.

 Batches distribution

Proteinemia was studied in birds which had not ingested Aflatoxin B1 (batch 1), compared with proteinemia of those which had ingested aflatoxin B1 until day 10 (batch 2) and of those which had ingested aflatoxin B1 together with polyphenols at a dose of 22.5 µg/kg live weight until day 42.

 Conclusions

Batch 1 presents a normal evolution of proteinemia according to the age.

Batch 2 presents low proteinemia due to hepatic damage produced at day 11 and, in spite of retiring aflatoxins, proteinemia does not improve at 42 days due to hepatic damage persistance.

Batch 3 presents low proteinemia caused by hepatic damage at day 11 but improves the levels at day 42 thanks to polyphenols administration, and inspite of ingesting aflatoxin. This fact demonstrates polyphenols reparative efficiency.
